FranktoidTM No. 29 - The Glory Days

Reliving your glory days is nothing new, it has been going on forever. What caught my attention was the guys reliving their muscle car glory days, primarily on the book of faces. I have a good friend that still has his glory day car, a 1967 Pontiac GTO. That's right, he didn't sell it or have to buy one to replace it. No need to post pictures and "remember when", he still has it along with all the memories. On the other hand, I constantly see glory day posts from old friends or high school buddies, featuring their old car from the past, the "one that got away" or the one "I should have never sold". That's all fine and dandy but somehow the showcased vehicle is fondly remembered as a vastly different car. Case in point, a '67 Chevelle recently posted for "Throwback Thursday" by an old high school acquaintance. Suddenly it was equipped with a 427 big block and a Doug Nash 5 speed, and it turned into a Super Sport! In reality, it was a base model Chevelle equipped with a 283 small block and a Saginaw 4 speed. The only thing Super Sport was the hood. The people that comment don't help either, as it turns out to be a dog pile of misinformation. Funny how bad some of these folks memories are! Now I might be a little hypocritical as my book, North Main, is literally reliving the glory days of street racing and cruising. But none of my cars suddenly grew big blocks or were totally misrepresented. I also don't post the same old grainy scan of a Polaroid picture featuring my high school car, monthly, just so people can post comments and relive the past. I really don't mind the old school car posts, what bugs me is why do they have to "remember" their car so differently then it actually was? I suppose it's no different than the old high school jock bragging about his wins and exaggerating their accomplishments. When I relive the glory days there is no need to embellish. Compared to our current times, a lot of younger folks would definitely find it hard to believe!

Yes, that's me standing on the fender on my buddy's GTO! Those were the glory days...
